In 2007, Teepe was commissioned to compose music for the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, where the Joris Teepe Quartet was invited to perform (see the video page on this website). These concerts received great critical acclaim and as a result, Joris was invited to be a guest soloist, performing his own music, for the Radio Big Band in Bucharest, Romania. Joris successfully re-arranged all the music from the Symphony Orchestra made up of 87 musicians to the Big Band formed by 17 musicians. The Bucharest concert was such a tremendous hit, inspiring him to create the Joris Teepe Big Band, featuring many renowned artists including:
Gene Jackson, drums & cymbals, Jon Davis, piano, Bruce Arnold, guitar Mark Gross, Craig Bailey, Peter Brainin, Don Braden, Stacy Dillard & Jason Marshall: saxes, flutes and clarinets. Noah Bless, Dion Tucker, Stafford Hunter and Earl McTyre: trombones Michael Philip Mossman, Vitaly Golovnev, Josh Evans, John Eckert: trumpets
The Big Band has now recorded it's first CD: JORIS TEEPE BIG BAND "We Take No Prisoners" features all original music, composed and arranged by Teepe, and was released on Challenge Records in september 09.
